It seems spring has finally arrived! If you're anything like me, you're eager to dive into your flower beds to dig, prune, and plant. But what should you plant for long-term impact? Between November and February, nurseries and garden centres tend to have a limited selection of evergreens to brighten up the space, but now the stock has arrived and they are bursting with colour.
That's all about to change, as new stock is either arriving or has just hit the shelves, offering a fresh array of planting options.
Majority of my clients mention frustration with never-ending cycle of buying new plants, that then look good for a couple of months and then die as their main issue in their gardens. Spending money wisely on good quality plants that will bring you joy for the years to come makes much more sense.
This week, I made a reconnaissance trip to a couple of local garden centres, and I’m excited to report that we still have beautiful hellebores available. The loropetalum plants just started blossoming, camellias are poised to burst into bloom—let's hope the rain doesn’t damage them!
Hannah from Big Green Garden Centre in Denham informed me about her recent delivery, which includes ilex, laurel, magnolia grandiflora, photinia, and ligustrum. Soon there will be a special focus on Rhododendrons, along with some stunning mature multi-stem cherry blossoms and magnolias. She will also be stocking hundreds of olives throughout the year!

All those hardy varieties that survive British winter in a good shape are a very safe bet if you are planning to revive your garden in Spring and. if planted now, will create a thriving evergreen garden and are ideal choices if you're struggling to select long-lasting plants. Many of my clients express their frustration with the endless cycle of purchasing new plants that look good for just a few months before wilting away. Investing wisely in high-quality plants that will bring you joy for years to come makes far more sense. Hardy varieties that withstand the British winter in excellent condition are a reliable choice if you're planning to revitalise your garden this spring.
For immediate colour gorgeous Dianthus and Anemone caught my eye. Saxifraga is also in full bloom. There is a good selection of spring bulbs that are about to break inti flower, if you missed the window for planting them in Autumn. Erysimum is also flowering now and will until Autumn.
So what are you waiting for! Go and have fun in the garden.
